Barbara Carroll is founder and co-director of enfusion; her specialist expertise is in sustainability and environmental planning.

Barbara is the Visiting Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of Glasgow.

Barbara has practical experience from various sectors including water, transport, wastes & minerals, contaminated land, and land use planning.

Barbara is an acknowledged national expert on sustainability and environmental planing. She is an advisor to central government, regional bodies, local authorities and environmental regulators as well as the private sector in the UK; she has also contributed expert advice internationally, for example, to the Maltese Government and UNDP/IMO in East Asia.
Barbara is a skilled & inspirational facilitator & trainer, for example, running stakeholder and training workshops for the Environment Agency, Regional Assemblies, and Local Authorities; she leads training courses in EIA, SEA, SA, and environmental planning.

At the University of Glasgow, she is working with embedding sustainability into the curriculum and developing sustainable case studies on renewable energy and urban waterfront development.

Barbara has prepared numerous papers and articles for journals and presentations in the UK and overseas on sustainability, Sustainable Development, and environmental planning; recent presentations include SEA Methods of Assessment for the RTPI, 2005. She has served on a number of Committees and Advisory Groups, for example, the SW Regional Environment Protection Advisory Committee for the Environment Agency (1996-2000) and The Sustainability Alliance (2003 - )
 
She has prepared Good Practice Guidance, for example, on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Planning Obligations; developed assessment methods, for example, Sustainability Threshold Assessment; she is currently co-authoring a book on Sustainable Water Management and Land Use Planning and is the co-author of the "Environmental Impact Assessment Handbook.


A Practical Guide for Planners, Developers and Communities.

She is also a teacher of yoga and practitioner of Ayurvedic massage.
